Big Wedges Have Their Place. So We Made a Tiny One.
Arborists already carry enough stuff.
Ropes. Carabiners. Saw. Lanyard. PPE. More carabiners. Probably another carabiner you forgot was there.
So when one of our arborist customers told us:
“I need a smaller wedge.”
Our first thought was:
That actually makes a lot of sense.
Not every cut needs a giant wedge, and when you're climbing, the last thing you want is another bulky piece of gear swinging around beside you.
That conversation became the beginning of the LAND Mini Wedge.
Because Sometimes You Don't Need the Big Guy
There are plenty of wedges out there.
Big wedges. Long wedges. Thick wedges. Serious-looking wedges that seem like they could double as wheel chocks.
And they all have their place.
But arborists don't always need the biggest wedge in the truck.
Sometimes you're dealing with smaller wood.
Sometimes you're working in a tight position.
Sometimes you just want something small enough to keep on you without thinking:
“Why did I bring this thing up here?”
That's where the idea for a mini wedge started.
Small Enough to Actually Want to Carry
One thing becomes very obvious when you're working in a tree:
Every inch of gear matters.
On the ground, another tool in the bag may not seem like a big deal.
Thirty feet up?
Different story.
You're already managing your climbing system, saw, ropes, positioning, communication, and whatever branch has decided to fight you that day.
A wedge shouldn't become another problem.
So we're developing the LAND Mini Wedge around a very simple idea:
Keep it useful. Keep it compact. Keep it easy to carry.
Your Gear Loop Is Already Busy
We know arborists love gear.
We also know your harness does not have unlimited real estate.
The goal of the Mini Wedge isn't to replace the larger wedges you already use.
It's more like adding a small tool that earns its spot.
Something you can keep nearby for those situations where pulling out a larger wedge feels like overkill.
Think of it as the wedge equivalent of:
“I probably don't need the big one for this.”
An Arborist Asked for It. So We Started Building It.
This is the part we like most.
We didn't sit in a meeting and say:
“The world needs another wedge.”
A customer actually asked for one.
They wanted something smaller. More convenient. Better suited for the way arborists move and work.
That's the kind of product-development idea we pay attention to.
Because the people using the gear every day usually know exactly where the annoying little problems are.
Our job is to listen.
What Are We Thinking About During Development?
Making something smaller sounds easy.
Just shrink it, right?
Not exactly.
Once we started developing the Mini Wedge, the questions became more specific.
How small is actually useful?
How thick should it be?
How easy is it to grab with gloves?
Can it be carried conveniently?
Will it fit naturally into an arborist's existing setup?
Is the material tough enough for the intended use?
Does it solve a real problem, or is it just cute?
That last one matters.
We want it to be small.
We don't want it to be a keychain.
Mini Wedge. Not Magic Wedge.
A mini wedge is not supposed to replace every other wedge.
Different cuts, trees, wood conditions, and work situations require different equipment.
Sometimes you need the bigger wedge.
Use the bigger wedge.
The LAND Mini Wedge is being developed as another option for situations where a smaller tool makes sense.
No superhero claims.
No “one wedge does everything.”
Just another useful tool in the kit.
Designed for Arborists, Not Just a Catalog
This project is also a good example of how we want to develop products at LAND.
We talk with arborists.
We talk with tree-care crews.
We talk with distributors.
And we pay attention when someone says:
“You know what would make this easier?”
Sometimes the answer becomes a small product improvement.
Sometimes it becomes a completely new product.
This time, it became a very small wedge.
Literally.
The LAND Mini Wedge Is Coming
We're still working through the final design, dimensions, material, and other details.
And we're continuing to listen to arborist feedback along the way.
But the idea behind the product is simple.
Less bulk.
Easy to carry.
There when you need it.
Because arborists already carry enough.
Your wedge doesn't always need to be the biggest thing hanging off your harness.
Sometimes small is exactly the point.
LAND Mini Wedge, requested by an arborist, developed for arborists, and hopefully small enough that your gear loop won't complain.
